  12. Charon 4.0 for Novell is now available via anonymous FTP (various sites),
  13. archive-server (email) and modem (BBS).
  14.  
  15. Detailed instructions are included at the end of this document.

  17. This version is shipped in a .ZIP format, which MUST be unzipped with
  18. the -d option.
  19. ---
  20. Version 4.0 (we're you expecting 3.5 perhaps?) adds LPR and LPD support
  21. to version 3.4's SMTP capability. It is also able to transfer print
  22. files between Novell queues on the same server, or between servers.

  24. Print files can be translated using USER developed loadable translators
  25. (samples are included).
  26.  
  27. This version supports Pmail's new delivery confirmation setting (can also
  28. be turned off).
  29.  
  30. This version does a pretty good job reconnecting to downed servers
  31. (except for the master server).
  32.  
  33. Due to the substantial increase in code, this version is now compiled to
  34. use Borland's VROOM technology for code paging. This means that expanded
  35. or extended memory is preferred, but not required. This version has been
  36. tested on lowly XT's and it still works (albeit, slowly).

  38. A PostScript (tm) and WordPerfect (tm) version of the 75 page manual is
  39. included in the distribution. Read the manual carefully to see what has
  40. changed during the upgrade process.

  42. This version has gone through a whopping 16 beta releases. (a sign of
  43. poor programming to be sure, and an aborted attempt to use RT-Link (tm)).

  45. In any case, I wish to personally thank all of the beta testers who 
  46. participated in the development of this release.

  49. In an effort to justify this work (if such a thing is possible), a
  50. registration form has been included in this release. The objective of
  51. the form is to find out how many sites (and of what type) are using Charon.
  52. There is absolutely no obligation to complete and return the form, and of
  53. course this software is still totally FREE to use.

  55. I ask that this form be filled out and email'd to the address on the form,
  56. thats all. You won't receive a response either. Don't bother to use postal
  57. mail or fax, its not worth it. After a reasonable period of time I'll post
  58. some statistics, if anyone is interested.
